World experts will discuss the future of globalization

On July 11, 2013 Ekaterinburg, a city bidding to host World Expo 2020, will host the Global Mind Symposium.
International and Russian experts, business community representatives and public officials along with delegates from more than 100 nations – members of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) will take part in the event.
The Global Mind Symposium is set not only to become the venue for discussing the issues of globalization but also for persuading the BIE delegates in the global relevance of Russia’s Expo theme.
The theme of the Russian bid, The Global Mind: The Future of Globalization and its Impact on our World, will be covered at plenary meetings and panel sessions. The discussion will cover globalization, innovation, information technology, urban planning, education, sport and culture.
The keynote report on the consequences, threats and challenges of globalization will be delivered by Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin will make a report on business and political cooperation in the global economy. At the “Globalization and Innovation” panel session, the speakers will discuss how the environment, healthcare development and access to energy and water resources influence the quality of life.
As a major industrial megacity, Ekaterinburg is using its resources in higher education and science to develop as the center of “human intellectual capital”. If the Russian bid wins, Expo 2020 will turn the city into a global platform for intellectual discussions, including a discussion on one of the most impressive phenomenon – globalization.
Other Expo 2020 bidders include Dubai (UAE), Izmir (Turkey) and Sao Paolo (Brazil). In accordance with the BIE requirements, each candidate city shall hold a symposium related to its bid theme. Ekaterinburg will be the first to welcome the BIE member states’ delegates.
