400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty: a unique photo album
The Tsar’s Cross photo album by Alexei Vladykin has been published in the Urals with the support of the regional ministry of culture to mark the upcoming 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.
The author confessed that the album took him some twenty years to create: he started working on it as soon as the information restrictions on the execution of Russia’s last Emperor Nicholas II and his family have been lifted in Russia. Over this period, the photo journalist managed to trace many important historical events that happened in the Mid Urals capital and are still of concern to many people in Russia and abroad.
The album features essays and photos of 1990-2012 telling the story of how the ‘Ekaterinburg remnants’ have been discovered, describing the expert analysis and investigations carried out by Russia’s Investigative Committee over the period of 1991-1998. It also features pictures of the solemn ceremony of sending the Imperial remnants off to St. Petersburg in 1998, visit by Patriarch Alexis of Moscow and All Russia to the Urals in 2000, construction and consecration of the Church on the Blood in Ekaterinburg and of the monasteries in Ganina Yama and Alapayevsk.
The album will be presented at the International conference “The XIV Romanovs Readings” to be held on July 17-19, 2013 in Ekaterinburg and Alapayevsk.

"The aerotropolis concept: while most airports are located farther away from urban centers, the Aerotropolis philosophy offers the reverse. The airport is located in the heart of Dubai, with a pharaonic project of € 33 billion! True "hub", the city of 140 km2 combines a seaport by channeling 12 million tons of cargo, an airport able to accommodate 120 million passengers, a business city, shopping centers and homes.

Masdar sustainable city: the UAE more than elsewhere, it is crucial to develop innovative projects for the generation, transmission and consumption of natural resources. The main challenges are to ensure universal access to energy and water, and to promote the adoption by all the principle of sustainable development. Concrete example with Masdar, "sustainable city" in the middle of the desert that runs on solar energy.

Ayutthaya will not host Expo 2020, Thailand

Ayutthaya will not host Expo 2020

BIE rejects Thailand's bid to host World Expo 2020 Ayutthaya Thailand

There will be no Expo 2020 in Ayutthaya. The BIE has dropped the ancient Thai capital from its list after failure to receive assurances of government support.

The Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) has rejected Thailand as a contender to host the World Expo 2020 after the government failed to endorse the bid. The BIE executive committee on Tuesday unanimously accepted a recommendation from its inquiry mission team to drop Thailand's bid to host World Expo 2020, according to BIE documents obtained by the Bangkok Post. The team visited Ayutthaya from Jan 28 to Feb 1 this year and gave the government until April 5 to answer its questions about the project's financial, legislative, organisational and diplomatic aspects. But the failure of the government to respond had cast doubts on the project's feasibility. The team said Ayutthaya had the potential to host the grand event, adding the proposed theme, centred on His Majesty the King's sufficiency economy philosophy, had merit. The country's interest in the philosophy could have been shared with the world, the team said in its report. The mission also said the theme was timely and significant at a global level. It also took stock of Thailand's experience in successfully hosting several events. Akrapol Sorasuchart, former president of the Thailand’s Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), said Thailand's bid to host the prestigious event is not on the agenda of the BIE's two-day meeting which began Tuesday in Paris. The meeting will consider the remaining candidates – Russia, Turkey, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Brazil, he said. The BIE made an inspection visit to Thailand early this year and found the old capital of Ayutthaya met its key criteria, the former TCEB chief said. However, Thailand's ambitious plan to host the world's largest fair hit a snag when the Pheu Thai Party-led government failed to confirm its support for the bid, he said. "It would have been better if the BIE had disqualified our country or other countries had outdone us. But we lost because of our own fault," Mr Akrapol said.

Izmir, Turkey Bid for 2020

Izmir, Turkey previously bid to host Expo 2015 and narrowly lost to Milan. A Turkish bid would seem to be a strong contender for 2020. Izmir was selected over Ankara by Turkey's federal government. The proposed theme is "New Routes to a Better World: Health for All."

Bid for 2020

Brazil, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates had all officially bid to host Expo 2020 by the 02 November 2011 deadline. Thailand's bid was removed on 11 June 2013. A decision will be made the the BIE General Assembly in November 2013.

Expo 2020 will likely represent a first no matter which city wins. If Dubai or Izmir win, it will be the first Middle Eastern expo. Expo 2020 will be the first Russian world's fair if Ekaterinburg wins. A Sao Paulo victory would make it the first world's fair in South America and Latin America as well as the first in the Western Hemisphere in 34 years and the first in the Southern Hemisphere in 32 years.
