Expo-Park will become a new district of Ekaterinburg

The holding of Expo 2020 in Ekaterinburg opens up big prospects for the city’s development.
The future Expo venue with the total area of 500 ha is just 3 kilometers away from the city center. Its architectural solutions will be harmonized with the picturesque waterfront and beautiful natural surroundings. Planning concepts for all Expo-Park infrastructure facilities, including the Expo-City, Expo-Village, parking lots and transport hubs, the amusement park, foot-walks and the water canal will be thoroughly designed so as to preserve the park area.

The Expo-Park territory will feature several types of pavilions, including five theme pavilions (total area - 75,000 sq. meters), 45 large pavilions for representatives of the federal districts, corporations and major nations (total area - 132,500 sq. meters), 30 pavilions for foreign countries (60,000 sq. meters), and 23 small pavilions for international organizations (43,400 sq. meters). All facilities will be arranged in the best way so as to allow each participating country to hold its national events and festivities close to its pavilion. Also, the Expo-Park area will feature an amphitheater for 5,000 seats, a cinema for 1,200 seats, a multimedia platform and two concert zones.
An Expo-arena, which the organizers plan to locate along the waterfront of the Verkh-Isetsky pond, will become a unique structure within the Park. This will be a multipurpose building designed for holding year-round events, including sports competitions (hockey and basketball) and concert performances. During the Expo, this arena will become the place for official events and ceremonies with participation of exhibiting countries.
Expo participants will be living in the Expo-Village that will occupy a total area of 21 ha. Its development plans contemplate the construction of eight- and twelve-story houses featuring one and two-room apartments with a kitchen and a living room, as well as 200 5-star four-room ‘luxe’ apartments. The Expo-Village will resemble a small city with its own infrastructure featuring restaurants, supermarkets, banks, medical facilities, and transportation and consumer services.
Visitors will be able to move around the Expo-Park on foot, using ground transport and river buses that will cruise along the inner water circle. And Esplanade, a wide landscaped street with branches stretching toward the waterfront, will become the main pedestrian mall.
After the exhibition, all the infrastructure facilities created for the Expo will be available for use by Ekaterinburg residents, including the residential accommodation with the total area of 2.5 million sq. meters, which will become the city’s new comfortable residential district. The developed waterfront with the total length of 2.5 kilometers will be converted into a city beach. Several theme pavilions, federal districts’ pavilions and the Central Rossiya pavilion will be preserved as cultural heritage sites and be used in the future as museums, libraries, exhibition and congress halls, recreation, shopping and entertainment centers. Also, some facilities will be used as preschool educational institutions and education centers.
