Background information:
In recent years, Russia’s relations with African nations have gained new momentum: the political dialogue is improving; mutually beneficial trade and economic ties and cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres are expanding.
In his message of congratulations to African heads of state and government on the occasion of the African Union’s 50th anniversary celebrated this May, President Vladimir Putin emphasized Russia’s interest in further strengthening partnership with the African Union, particularly in international forums such as the UN, the G8, the G20, BRICS and others. He also underscored Russia’s desire to further strengthen its traditionally friendly relations with all African countries in every possible way.
The Russian regions that have established partner relations with African countries and interstate associations play a deservedly important role in these processes. In particular, the Sverdlovsk region has shown considerable dynamics in establishing official contacts and expanding trade and economic ties with

African countries.
